For over 140 years, the Castaldo group has been a benchmark of excellence in the agricultural and agro-industrial world. It has always been recognised as a company that combines Vision and Innovation. The tradition and values handed down through four generations make it a cornerstone in the production and distribution of products for the nutrition and protection of agricultural crops, for the agri-food sector, and of raw materials for industry.
In 1872, in Afragola near Naples, at a time when the rural character of Campania Felix was still strong, Pasquale Castaldo founded the company, starting out in the trade of sulphur and technical supplies for agriculture. After the war, in a resource-rich southern Italy preparing for the golden years of agricultural development, the Castaldo group followed this change closely, widening and strengthening its business.
In the years that followed, with his son Nicola joining the business, the company grew stronger and gained ever more ground in local agriculture.

After Nicola died in 1957, his descendants Pasquale, Romualdo and Alfonso kept the family tradition alive while taking the first steps towards the future. They were, in fact, the first in Italy to import compound fertilizers for agriculture. Acquiring a sulphur mine in the upper Crotone area and building a mill near the town of Ariano Irpino, in the province of Avellino, established the company as one of the most interesting emerging businesses in the country. Castaldo sulphur, under its own brand, was sold throughout Italy, both for farming and for livestock. It was a giant step towards a success that would consolidate over the years and earn recognition nationwide.
In the early 1970s Pasquale, one of the three brothers and also managing director, signed exclusive distribution agreements with some of the largest fertilizer producers and traders in Europe and worldwide.
In those years of historic and technological change for Italian agriculture, Nicola Castaldo, Pasquale’s son, born in 1958, joined his father and brought his own forward-looking vision to the company. Nicola read the favourable changes and the growth opportunities the market offered, beginning a policy of diversifying the range and introducing new technical specialities for sustainable agriculture, anticipating a future that has now become the present.

This further push towards modernisation took shape above all in the import of products based on extracts of medicinal plants from Southern Asia.
These are significant solutions for organic farming and have become indispensable tools for the whole crop production sector. Nicola’s choice to focus the company’s offer on products for modern, sustainable agriculture brought Castaldo to the height of its historic success.
The international visibility the company gained allowed it to stand out as the ideal partner among the most successful agri-business companies in Europe and beyond.
Today, as throughout its decades of history, Castaldo continues its research under the banner of innovation, promoting solid, forward-looking projects.
